Two children - ages 9 and 13 - from Northeast DC were arrested over the weekend for an attempted armed robbery in their hometown, the Metropolitan Police Department announced.

At around 12:40 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, police say that a woman was walking in the 500 block of 10th Street NE when she was accosted by the pair, though the woman had other plans in mind for the youthful offenders.

It is alleged that one of the two assaulted the woman and attempted to grab her purse, but she pepper sprayed one of them, prompting the other to pull out a knife and lunge at her multiple times unsuccessfully.

The woman was able to get free and called 911, leading to both of their arrests for assault with the intent to commit robbery while armed with a knife.
